The House: Food for the Soul

I was thrilled at the beginning of 2018 when a new cafe opened in my hometown of Mooresville, Indiana. A place to get coffee that isn’t a chain? Yes please! The House, owned by Phil and Jennifer Taylor is much more than a cafe. They describe their mission as “Food for the Soul” and I could not agree with that statement more. While I love a good homemade broccoli cheddar soup and vanilla latte, what I love more is how inspired I feel after visiting. The House has quickly become a wonderful addition to our community. Their ministry and charitable efforts are incredible.

Recently, they began doing even more for the community- a program that gives local businesses and community members the opportunity to show appreciation for first responders by providing them with meals. I thought this was a really cool idea before, but after sitting down and talking with Phil one morning, I learned how truly necessary this program is. Hearing Phil and Jennifer speak about their goals for the community really inspires me to look at what I am doing with my career endeavors, and figure out how to use them in the best ways possible.

If you live in Morgan County, you are probably somewhat aware of the substance abuse and suicide epidemics in our community. It never once occurred to me that our local first responders are the ones who most frequently see these tragedies first hand. Mental health and drug abuse are subjects very close my heart and seeing my community become more aware of how they can help (and become more willing to help) is heartwarming.

I had the privilege of joining Phil and Jennifer one Friday morning, to take breakfast to the Madison Township Fire Department, courtesy of Blaschke Tax Services and Josh Smalling Roofing and Restoration Co. I would like to say a huge thank you to these local businesses for partnering with The House and I would like to encourage other members of our community to join in showing appreciation for our local first responders, who face much more than we can imagine every single day.
